Where are you located and do you travel?

I’m located in Kingston, WA and will gladly travel anywhere in the Puget Sound region.  Of course, I’m down for travelling further, too.  Give me a shout and let’s talk .

What kind of equipment do you use?

I am currently using professional Fujifilm Digital Mirrorless Cameras that are small and light and just plain awesome. If you are a gear or camera nerd, feel free to ask me why I’m not shooting with Canon or Nikon and I can go into the nitty gritty.

Do you have backup equipment?

Yes. Extra camera bodies, flashes and more than enough lenses to cover an event. Once I get home from your event, I immediately back up all photo files on multiple hard drives in at least two different physical locations.

How long have you been doing this?

I shot my first wedding as a favor for a friend in 2005. It was quite nerve-racking but my friends loved the images I made!  More importantly, I fell in love with making such important images for people.  I’ve been shooting weddings and portraits and growing my business ever since.  In 2013, I cut back working at my previous full-time job to give myself more time to focus on my photography and clients.  It’s been an amazing ride!

Do you have formal photography education?

I have a Fine Arts degree in Photography from the University of Washington, but my photography education will never stop.  I am constantly evolving and expanding my technique and vision.

Do you offer discounts?

If you are concerned with your budget, I’ve always been willing and able to work with clients that are up-front and honest about their budget concerns. There’s usually a way to make things happen!

Are you insured?

Yes.  I can provide proof of insurance if your venue requires it.  Let me know ahead of time!

Can we meet with you first?

I would love to meet up with you! In fact, I would prefer it! Give me a call or shoot me an email and let’s meet up to chat about how I can best capture the story of your wedding day. If you’re not in the greater Seattle area, we can meet via FaceTime or Skype. Better yet, let’s do an engagement or pre-wedding photo shoot because that’s the best way to get to know each other. If you decide to book me for your wedding, I will deduct the cost of the engagement shoot from your wedding photography package. It’s like a Matt Pool test-drive!

Do we have to do an engagement shoot?  We’re not exactly newly engaged.

I won’t force you to.  However, I include a complimentary engagement shoot with every package because  it really is the best way for us to get to know each other and for you to feel comfortable in front of me and my camera.  It’s always more fun than you think it’s going to be and you’ll get some great photos out of it.  I can even make you a guest book for your wedding using the engagement session photos.  I love it when couples get creative and adventurous with their engagement sessions.

Do we get digital copies of the wedding photographs?

Yes!  The price of your wedding package includes a thumb drive of high resolution, fully edited images with printing rights for your personal use.

When can I see my photographs? When do I get my album/book?

I usually will have all the edited images uploaded to an online gallery in 4-8 weeks, depending on my work load. Prints can be ordered from the gallery and will be delivered to you in 1-2 weeks. Custom-designed albums are usually delivered 1-3 months after the wedding photos are delivered.

What do you expect from us?

I expect you to be yourselves. I know it’s weird having a camera pointed at you all day, but it’s a lot easier with someone you love right next to you. I make a huge effort to get the best shots without being in your face all day.  So enjoy the moment, have the time of your life, and forget about everything else.

Can we customize our package?

Of course! I prefer my clients to selects what they want from my menu of options. You can mix it up, add or subtract as much as you want. Contact me and I will send you the current price list.  I really want to make it work for you!

How many images will I get?

This depends on the length of photographic coverage, and can range between 300-800 images. Of course, I capture much more than that, but I will edit out the out-of-focus shots, closed eyes, your cousin’s wardrobe malfunction, etc. All images are meticulously balanced for color and exposure.  I personally edit/process every image you receive to my own taste and style and wouldn’t have it any other way.

What products do you offer?

I offer a couple different styles and price rages of wedding albums as well as numerous wall art options and prints. My services don’t stop when I deliver your final wedding images. We’ll work together to create a beautiful, custom designed wedding album and/or wall art galleries so that your wedding photos aren’t stuck on a computer forever.

How much time do wedding portraits take?

I recommend setting aside at least an hour for portraits of just the two of you.  These will be your some of your favorite photos!  You’ll be looking awesome and simply enjoying some time alone (with me), so remember that the more time you set aside for photos of just the two of you, the better the results will be. Other than that, plan on a half hour with the wedding party and a half hour for the family shots (depending on the size of your parties/families).

What are ‘first-look portraits’?

If you aren’t set on waiting until the ceremony to see each other, I’d suggest considering some first-look portraits before the ceremony.  It’s a great way to spend some quality time with each other before things get rolling, and it allows you to enjoy the rest of your celebration without having to do portraits after the ceremony.  You’ll get to spend more time together on your wedding day and trust me, it won’t make your walk down the aisle any less meaningful.

We just want the digital photos. Who wants an album anyway?

Even though we live in a digital world, there are so many reasons to have an album to remember your wedding day. Photos will always look better printed than on a screen. Also, having a book of well-curated photos to show your family and friends is much kinder than having them sit through a two hour slideshow of all the photos. Albums are also a great way to pass down your legacy and heritage to the next generation.

Ok Matt. You talked me into getting an album, how does that work?

I’ll make a simple, timeless design that tells the story of your day. You get a couple of rounds to add or subtract photos. Then it’s off to the printers.  Easy.

What happens if you are unable to make it to our wedding due to accident/illness/injury, etc?

I have a number of connections within the local photographer community and most of them would jump at the opportunity to help a photographer in need. If I am incapacitated, my wife knows how to reach out for assistance to make sure your wedding is covered by a professional.

What’s next? What is required to book my date?

Take a look at my portfolio galleries and find out more about me.  If you like what you’re seeing and think that we’d hit it off and work great together, then let’s talk! To book your date I require a signed contract and $1,000 non-refundable retainer. It’s that easy!
